About Magda

Magda Lukas is an artist and photographer residing in Cork, Ireland.

She is a modern artist known for vibrant acrylic paintings that dance the line between real and abstract. As a photographer by trade, she has spent countless hours shooting and on her computer pouring over photography. In 2015 she discovered that painting not only allows her to delve back into a more tactile world, but also allows her to create scenes in radical colours that no photo could capture.

Her work is light and fresh and the compositions are a delicate balance of winding layers of colour.

Growing up in Poland she developed her connection to the natural world at her family’s cottage in the Northern wilderness. However, it was the Irish beaches which honed her visual expression. Magda’s technique responds to naturally occurring patterns.

The foundation of her current body of work lies in the arts of  Suminagashi and Ebru, emanating from Japan and Turkey centuries ago and are both evident in her inaugural collection.

In search of visual phenomena in nature like structures of agate stone, wood, grain, patterns of growth, Magda Lukas sets out to experiment with art techniques to imitate and magnify nature.

We created the process of fusing together the unseen and the seen so that they are now inseparable.
